Anritsu Corporation has expanded the capabilities of its Wireless Connectivity Test Set MT8862A by introducing a new feature that is compatible with the emerging Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be). This enhancement allows the MT8862A to assess Wi-Fi 7 signal quality using its Network Mode.

The MT8862A from Anritsu Corporation enhances Wi-Fi 7 testing with its per-data-rate signal control technology, which is critical because WLAN signal quality can vary significantly across different data rates. This technology facilitates comprehensive RF evaluation for all data rates across major WLAN standards, including the new Wi-Fi 7. The test set offers a versatile testing environment, enabling the assessment of RF TRX characteristics such as transmit power, modulation accuracy, and receive sensitivity for WLAN devices.

In technical terms, Network Mode is a test mode that simulates actual device operation to evaluate RF characteristics, leveraging data link layer communication protocols for connectivity between chips and testers. This mode is particularly beneficial for Over-The-Air (OTA) performance testing, which includes the evaluation of antenna characteristics in finished products. IEEE 802.11ax is the preceding WLAN standard that supports maximum theoretical speeds up to 9.61 Gbps. Multi-link Operation (MLO) is a cutting-edge technology that allows a single device to engage in simultaneous data transmission and reception across multiple frequency bands and channels, a feature central to the Wi-Fi 7 standard.

The development of the Wi-Fi 7 standard is on track for completion by 2024, poised to cater to devices geared towards cutting-edge applications and services, including ultra-high-definition video streaming and augmented/virtual reality experiences. Devices outfitted with chips adhering to the preliminary specifications of Wi-Fi 7 have already entered the market, sparking a growing need for testing instruments capable of evaluating Wi-Fi 7-enabled devices.
